iD Comedy Club
iD Comedy Club Sydney — Live Stand-Up Comedy at Carousel, Surry Hills
iD Comedy Club is Sydney's premier independent comedy club. Founded in 2017, now approaching its 9th year, the club has grown from a 30-seat room into one of the most respected comedy venues in Australia.
In January 2026, iD Comedy Club moved to Carousel in Surry Hills — a purpose-fit 200-seat showroom with proper sound, proper lighting, and sightlines from every seat. Before that, the club spent nearly 8 years at Kinselas Basement, a 110-seat room that became one of Sydney's most recognized comedy addresses.
The move was simple: the audience outgrew the room. Opening night at Carousel sold out before the venue was even announced.
iD Comedy Club is not a promoter renting a function room. It is a comedian-run operation that programs its own shows, books its own acts, and builds lineups the way comedy lineups should be built — with an opener, a middle, and a headliner who can hold a room for an hour.
Shows at iD Comedy Club
Friday and Saturday Night Shows
iD Comedy Club runs live stand-up comedy every Friday and Saturday night at Carousel, Surry Hills. Sponsored by Philter Brewing. Each show features a full lineup: an MC, support acts, and a headline comedian performing a 45+ minute set. Shows run approximately 2 hours with an interval.
Doors: 6:30pm | Showtime: 7:30pm | Tickets: From $25 (student) / $35 (adult)
Lineups change weekly. The club programs a mix of Australia's best touring headliners, rising local talent, and international acts passing through Sydney.
Magic Mic Comedy — Every Wednesday
Magic Mic Comedy is iD Comedy Club's professional stand-up showcase with table service running all night. This is not an open mic — it is a curated show featuring working comedians delivering polished sets in a relaxed, intimate format.
Touring headliners regularly drop in unannounced to work out new material or just get stage time in a great room. If you want to see comedy up close with a drink in your hand and no idea who might walk on stage next, Magic Mic is it.
Notable Performers and Drop-Ins
iD Comedy Club has become the room international comedians seek out when they're in Sydney. Notable performers and surprise drop-ins include:
Andrew Schulz — dropped in for an unannounced set that picked up traction online
Jeff Ross — performed at the club while touring Australia with Dave Chappelle
Mark Normand — a regular visitor, returning multiple times across different tours
Tony Woods — legendary American stand-up, performed during his Australian tour
Adam Ray — dropped in for a set during his Sydney dates
These are not one-off celebrity appearances. International acts come back because the room works. 200 seats, low stage, audience close enough to make comedy feel like a conversation.
Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2026
iD Comedy Club is heading to Melbourne for the full month of April 2026 as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The club will be based at Hofbrauhaus Melbourne for the entire festival run — not a weekend, not a guest spot, but a full month of iD Comedy Club programming in one of Australia's most iconic comedy festivals.
MICF is the third-largest comedy festival in the world. Having a dedicated venue for the full run puts iD Comedy Club alongside the biggest names and venues in Australian comedy.
Details and lineup announcements will be published on standupsydney.com and @idcomedyclub on Instagram.
